I hear Texas is an overall "anti-IMG" state. Are there any "special" requirements for IMGs to get a residency in the state of Texas?

I also hear that to get a state license to practice in Texas, there are supposedly required rotations that need to be seen on your transcript, such as 1 month electives in both Family Practice and Neurology, which have to be done at institutions which sponsor residency programs in Family Practice and Neurology, respectively. Is this accurate?

If anyone is familiar with any "quirky" rules about IMGS and the state of Texas, please reply. Thanks.

they no longer require neurology to be done.

for the moment, they require that all the cores acgme certified. Same for electives, but I remember them talking about changing that fact.

Otherwise, the reqs are about the same as most other states. You'll have to prove that your school provides an education equal to that of a texas school. (not so easy - Ross got caught on this before).

thanks for the reply. can u provide a link where u found the above information regarding texas' license requirments?

Dunno about Neuro & FP, but there are plenty of guys in IM.
A friend of mine has interviewed last year at San Antonio & Baylor.

So probably, not an anti IMG state.
I don't have any knowledge about any special requirements, though.
