Hi Guys,
I ran across this question when I was reviewing my class material to study for the boards!

Female patient, 18 years old
Took penicillin and developed an allergic reaction to it. Went to the doctor and said "Why did I develop the allergy to penicillin now? Everytime in the past when I got sick the doctors would give me penicillin. "

Thank you in advance for your help!

people are not born allergic to penicillin, anyone can develop penicillin allergy at any age of life but they need to be exposed to it once at least. After that, re-exposure to penicillin or related antibiotics can trigger an allergic reaction.
