what impact do personal anxiety problems have on a career in health sciences. Do they stop the doc to be from delivering primary care

Generally physicians' activities are only restricted when there are debilitating or dangerous psychiatric problems involved (such as schizophrenia, drug or alcohol abuse, etc) which has the potential to interfere with providing proper care. The world would be in a lot of trouble if anyone with an anxiety disorder was prohibited from being a doctor!

There are a couple of people in my class with anxiety and other psychiatric problems. They are having a tougher time getting through med school than others but they've made it to 2nd year so i guess they're handling it ok. I believe that anxiety will make it more difficult to get through the training but in general shouldn't impact the level of care you provide to patients once you're trained.

depends on the problem and degree of the problem.

i wouldnt worry though....lawyers keep us in check

I think it depends on what the problem is and how well it is controlled. All of that being said, make sure that you really want to do medicine before you commit with a condition. I can't imagine that any of this will make it better.

I think doctors have a higher rate of depression and anxiety than most other careers.... but training to become a doctor has helped me get better at managing my own - it's made me face things head on and work through the causes of my troubles, and I am glad I decided to take this path.
