I've been having an ongoing debate with a friend about whether going to a particular medical school will affect one's success in the match. He is an MS3 at Columbia P&S, and believes that going to P&S (a school with a heavy focus on surgery) will help him secure a spot in an Integrated Plastics Residency.

My main argument has been that PRS is a field very distinct from general surgery or other subspecialties. If anything, I thought that the surgeons at a school like P&S may not even look favorably upon someone interested in PRS. Just curious what some of you (droliver, max, and others) thought.

I would argue, however, that going to NYU, UCSF, or Baylor would obviously be helpful because of the opportunity available to secure a rec with a member at one of those institutions.
