Hey all,

Just a question about the relative impact of a residency program changing their program director. Vandy is bringing in the current program director from U Florida this year. Would you consider this a red flag for both programs? I would assume its a bigger hit to Florida's program, but probably doesn't make things easier at Vanderbilt either. It's pretty late in the interview trail and is an odd time to email applicants about a change, but that's where we are at. Any residents or attendings have any thoughts on if this should impact a rank list?

In my opinion, this is almost irrelevant. Being program director is a lot of work, frequently with little reward, and people get tired of doing it after a while. It would be surprising to me if this change had a huge impact on the residents.

Obviously, it could, but it probably won't. If you really liked UF, by all means, rank them accordingly. Just my opinion.

Agree with above. My program went through a similar change, and the impact on daily resident life has actually been positive. Old PD's get burned out and I can tell the difference in enthusiasm and energy with our new PD. Being PD is like being chief resident; it's a difficult, thankless job with very little incentive to deal with the needy residents who act like children. Can anyone tell I'm burned out?

Whether or not the change of PD impacts the program, for me the take away from this is that Vanderbilt has been transparent and open regarding the change whereas I'm hearing crickets from the UF side (I interviewed at both). Speaks to the integrity of the programs, if you ask me.
