Greetings everyone, I am a sophomore at a university in Florida. I am a chemistry major, and this semester my course load was quite heavy with cell biology, organic chemistry 2, physics 1/lab, and a basic neuroscience course. I have not performed well this semester as compared to my last ones. I had a 4.0 till the fall semester of this year when I got 2 B's. Now, I am most likely going to end up with a D in my physics lecture class and a D in my organic lab on top of a W in my organic chemistry 2. I will be retaking the lecture course and the lab in the summer. I know that MD schools average the retake with the original, but how bad will this impact my chances? I am determined to reverse this slide in my grades and will shoot for a 4.0 in the remaining 2 years. I personally put all of the blame on my self for my approach in learning the material. I have also had issues with depression since the summer of last year, but I am not using that as an excuse. How will taking upper level courses and doing well in them counter one bad semester? Thank you for your help.

Rough semesters happen. Do the best you can moving forward. Try to maintain a strong upward trend in your overall GPA and science GPA from this point onward until the time you graduate. Schools will recognize the upward trend and won't harp on the one bad semester if you're able to do well the rest of the way.
