I recently had a case report published as the first author/only author beside the surgeon who performed the procedure. This procedure, the subject of the report, is relatively new, with ~1,500 performed worldwide, to the best of my knowledge. It is published in a journal that realistically is not that great. What impact will this have on my application? This is the only research I have, and I feel like the limited hours I spent on this will not compare to people with hundreds/thousands of hours of research in a lab. I know this publication will not harm my application, but how positively will admission committees view it?
