I know some dental schools like UOP strongly recommend taking a course in anatomy, but just how important is taking this course when considering your application for admission. Any of you get in to UOP without taking anatomy? I am asking because there is an anatomy course being offered at UC Berkeley's extension program, but it's kind of expensive($800) so I am trying to see if taking the course is worth it.

From what I hear, U of P is one of the more selective schools. That being said, getting into any other school is no picnic either.

With all of the applicants loaded up on science courses, I would not skip out on Anatomy. Especially since it is a very important science course. I learned alot in my anatomy course.

Think of the $800 as an investment.

ps: ♦ Students are advised to complete one course in anatomy as part of the four required semesters of biological sciences.

It doesn't matter if you go to UOP, UCSF, UCLA, Midwestern or ANYHWERE else you get into. Anatomy is something I think everyone SHOULD take. There's not a single dental student I talked who DON'T rec taking anatomy. It's just a good and HARD prep course for D-schools and the schools would probably love to see you take it and do well in it.

I enrolled in Anatomy this semester at the last minute because I knew that it would be beneficial. Although my school doesn't offer human anatomy, is comparative ok?

I don't think its a big deal if its comparative. I would think comparative might even be more difficult.

I'd say it's not worth it. I'm sure it would help because you would be more familiar with the material but I don't think it's worth $800. Just focus on anatomy once you're in dental school. Buy a good atlas and there are plenty of online resources that will help you (University of Michigan tables).

I didn't take anatomy and I was fine, as were lots of my classmates that never saw it before.
