Thought I would share...

I emailed Howard last week regarding the importance of the carving section of the DAT because I had dropped my soap (resulting in a very low mark) and here was their response:

No, you do not have to retake the DAT. The committee do not concern the carving portion of the exam.

Mrs. Randall

So, if anyone else has carving relating news, perhaps you can share it with our fellow Canadian SDNers

i got an 8 on carving..i dont think its a big deal. i wasnt asked about it when i interviewed at case and columbia last year. they told me the 2 most important sections were bio and reading comprehension.

I didn't think it would be a big deal either, except that Howard stated specifically in their email that a minimum of 17 was required in each section of the DAT. It's just nice to know officially.

I read an article stating that soap carving doesn't really predict preclinical performance. I can't explain your Case rejection if Case cares most about bio and RC, but officially.... NYU and Harvard for sure DO NOT look at carving as it is not fair to look at a section that most applicants did not take when I asked the schools. But schools like Louisville and Penn "look at the whole package", so I figure some look at it while most don't care...
