How important is it to have DO lor at PCOM and NYIT. I know they dont require it but it is highly advisable to have one.

i'd have one...makes your app that much better

i think the importance of the DO letter shows that DO is not just your "back up". if you took the time to get to know a DO, you are showing your interest in osteopathic medicine, and that you really know what it is.

but i don't know how the schools who only suggest it look upon candidates without it.

if you're serious about DO, get the letter.

I was accepted to PCOM and didnt have a letter, but I am friends with a DO who is practicing and with a student at NYCOM.

I had a LOR from a MD and a DO, and I got accepted at both NYCOM and PCOM. I would recommend it.
This is what someone told me about having a letter from a DO:
Imagine you are on the adcom of your desired med school, and you have two candidates in front of you, same stats, same EC's, etc. Now one student has a LOR from a DO, and the other applicant doesn't have a letter from a DO. Who would you pick??

It seems feasible to think that the letter from a DO does carry some weight.
