I am getting somewhat of a good deal on Kaplan Biochem, Pharmacology, and Behavioral Sciences notes, but it is 2008 edition. I know people have said in the past that kaplan books don't change year to year too much. But, I will be taking the step1 in 2013 so that's about a 5 year difference, do you think it's still okay to get these books? Do you think it is worth buying a newer edition?

thanks for your help! 🙂

I dont think you should be buying any step 1 materials before you even matriculate in med school. When the time comes buy the most up to date materials. When it comes to step 1 don't be stingy.

I didnt see a MAJOR change in the 2010 version compared to the previous ones, excluding the fact that they removed questions at the end of topics. But still i agree with the posts above, theres no point getting the books so early. I bought one set in my first year of med school, its still lying there untouched cos i had to buy the newer version.

I agree, that it is way too early for you to be buying your Step 1 materials. Especially, when many second years will be giving away their Kaplan notes for free to the underclass(wo)men, when they're done with them. If this person is going to give you their notes for free, sure take them up on their offer. But it sounds like you're paying for them, which I wouldn't do. Put that money towards a new copy of First Aid. It's great to start Basic Sciences with a copy of FA under your arm. That way, you'll always be sure to study the USMLE related material in your courses, as some professors don't care about teaching their classes in such a manner.
