Hi all,

For those who have been accepted to PT programs, how important did you feel the strength of your extracurricular, honors, and work experience were to being accepted? Also, did you feel the type of activity or work (such as pre-PT club, college sports, marathon participation) have an impact. I was a music major for my undergraduate and the activities I have mostly center on music. I also have a degree in Biology, and was hoping that two majors would count as an extracurricular activity in itself. Any stories of how your outside activities impacted your acceptance (or non-acceptance) would be greatly appreciated.

I think the main way your extracurriculars potentially impact your application are through your interviews and in your essay (if you choose to write about them). It's about how you describe what you got out of the experiences, what you learned, and how you can apply that to PT school and being a PT that really matter. I believe most programs look more at the numbers (GPA, GRE, etc) when making decisions on who to invite for interviews. (My major and extracurriculars were also unrelated to PT, and I don't think that made any difference at all in my applications)
