importance of leadership position for residency application?

I held one leadership position in undergrad and it was so much work. I enjoyed some aspects of it, but many days I dreaded fulfilling my commitments for the position bc it took away from my personal and studying time.
I am not opposed to it if it can give me a leg up though.
I still plan on joining clubs.

If you want the most impact for residency apps then try for President or VP of that specific club or study group (for example, if you're interested in perio then try to become president of Perio Club by D4 year)
For the other orgs just go for lower positions like secretary, treasurer, editor, etc.
I held multiple of those in school and they were not that much commitment really (if you stay organized)
