How important is it for you to have everything completed for ERAS by Sept 1 in order to secure an early interview? The reason I ask is because my school is changing it's curriculum and I will not be finishing my 3rd year clerkships until the last week of August. So, it will be probably mid-late September or early October before my transcript becomes finalized.

I know I can enter in all of the things that I have control over such as recs, personal statements, etc... but transcripts are inevitably out of my hands.

Can anyone offer any advice or input?

Thanks!

Go ahead and submit your application. I got interviews before my transcript went out. I think most schools were sort of slow on getting transcripts out this year. Mine only went through within the past 2 weeks. Good luck!

Hey -- my advice would be to submit your transcript as is in early/mid september when you have the rest of your application ready. I think some programs would be hesitant to offer you an interview without seeing your transcript....and besides, the grades for clerkships you take in Aug/Sept that might not show up yet on your transcript will be mentioned in your Dean's letter.

I would, however, make sure you take your Internal Medicine clerskhip earlier than Aug/Sept to ensure that grade shows up on your transcript. Thats definitely the grade most important to residency programs.

Submit the things you have control over, make sure you've done what you can to get your transcript released on time and don't worry about the rest. FWIW, I didn't finish my surgery rotation until the end of October so my transcript didn't initially include my surgery grade, nor did my MSPE include comments from that rotation. You can also always have them release your transcript early and then re-release it when your grades are all in.

I don't even think it's important to submit the internal medicine application by Sept 1st. I didn't, and matched at my #1 choice, a competitive university program.
Ideally it's nice to submit in September, but it's not critical. Just submit your stuff and get the transcript sent within a reasonable time. Remember, the Dean's letter doesn't even come out until November 1st, and they use that too (for candidate selection).
