i'm new to the forum but already getting really great info from it already! the test for me is on june 22--let the countdown begin!

i just did a search on the form for vaccines and found one thread from last year saying that there were lots of immuno quesitons on vaccines. what has everyone's experience been this year? and what kinds of questions about the vaccines? like exactly what proteins are in them, how they are inactivated, etc? just wondering, esp since i'm doin' the micro right now!

thanks!! 😳

I would know live vs, killed, what you can give a woman in pregnancy and what you can give a newborn, what you can give an AIDS patient, what the mechanisms of action is for the Sabin Polio vaccine, and which one is a recombinant vaccine. If you have the time to learn the minutiae avout the individual vaccines, have fun! but I think if you can handle all the clinical aspects, you should be fine.

Also, know the three major polysaccharide capsular antigen vaccines and what age groups they are used for, and what they have done (decrease morbidity or mortality).

Know the flu vaccine, and that antibodies made to either HA or NA are protective, even though it usually has both. Know which are egg-based, as these can cause allergy. Know why there will never be a vaccine to the 'common cold'.

This seems like a good starting point, in my opinion.
