Hope you guys can help me PLEASE!!!

I'm taking an A & P class this summer, and was wondering what is and what isn't used in pharmacy school. For example, we're now studying all the diff bones in the skull and body. Is it really that important to memorize all these "names" for pharmacy school or am I wasting my time?

Also, how important are these other topics and will they be of help once i go to pharm school in the fall? So, my question, which of the following topics should I study in depth and which should I not worry about? Thank you!!! 🙂

Skeletal Sys.
Joints of skeletal sys
Muscular System
Nervous Sysytem
Somatic & Spec. Senses
Blood
Cardiovascular Sys.
Lymphatic Sys.
Digestive Sys
Respiratory Sys
Urinary Sys
Reproductive Sys

Thanks again!!! 🙂

Hey Davey, I sent you a couple of PMs. I'm sure I asked for a "read receipt" but when I tracked the messages, it didn't say anything about the messages I sent yesterday. Did they go through? Just curious 😉

I'm taking an A&P class right now too. What I want to know is what should I focus on to prepare myself for the PCAT?

yeah lvpharm, i got your post. thanks
Any pharmacy students who already have taken a & p, and are already in pharmacy school...what topics do u feel helped u most in pharmacy school so far...any advice will be of help. thanks!!! 🙂 😀

You want to make an A, so you will have to learn all those bone names and muscle names. I haven't used any of that in pharmacy school. You do need to know the physiology of both bones and muscles, though.

Other things that are important to pharmacy school are the organ systems, ie. cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, endocrine, etc. Also, you will need to know everything about the brain in great detail.

On the other side of graduation you will never need to look at anatomy again. So learn it well, it must last a lifetime.

Physiology is another matter. It is a good idea to keep your physiology book
forever.

Any other opinions/suggestions???
Thanks everyone for your help!!!

I took PCAT in October. As far as I remember, not many questions were covering A&P in the Biology section. I would think that you don't really need to know the skeletal system for the PCAT, because it would take them too much of an effort to formulate such a question by means of words only. So everything that requires diagrams or pictures is not likely to be on the test. For example, they are not likely to ask you to name particular blood vessels, but they can ask you which blood vessels are the most numerous. In terms of Anatomy they will be asking questions that are easy to ask. Like, "What is the name for the air sacs in the lungs?" Some questions may cover both Anatomy and Physiology. e.g. "What is the function of the Cerebellum?? Here you have to know both the names and the functions of different parts of the brain.
Anyway, don't worry. If you pass the final on A&P, you'll be in a good shape for the test.

Good luck!

im also taking P now. and we are covering exactly same subject you are covering. best advice i can give is to to study and aim for A grade, that way you will know every thing for pharmacy school. Endocrine is most important part of the class, because you learn how dose the drugs effect the body on cellular level.

hey guys,
since i'm spending about two days on each organ system (four hrs each day), i was wondering, for those of u who are already in pharmacy school, which organ "systems" do u deal with most often???
Thanks for your help!!! 🙂
