In all things, you should look neat and nice. I don't think "expensive" is valued all that much by adcoms.

Which Are Important for Someone Going on an Interview?

fancy / expensive shoes

fancy / expensive suit

tie (for men)

hands / nails (for both men & women)

makeup (for women (mostly))

hair style (both men & women)

suit not wrinkled

suit fits perfectly / tailored

white(ned) teeth

none of the above; appearance doesn't count for much
