My pre-me advisor will send my commity letter and my LORs' directly to the schools. She will not send them to AADSAS. Is that ok?
If she is not sending them to AADSAS, do I still have to include the names of
evaluators in my AADSAS application. 😕

I don't know if you should include them on the evaluator list. I would probably not list them because I wouldn't want AADSAS to hold up my application. You should call AADSAS to ask though.

But what I really wanted to comment on is why in the world are advisors so inflexible? Or so power-trippy? I can think of no good reason why your pre-med advisor won't put an extra stamp on an envelope and send one extra set of letters to AADSAS. I mean, really, what possibly could be the reason...except that 1) she's lazy, 2) she's on a power trip, or 3) she's an idiot. Though it is hard to reason anything out with an idiot, if she falls into that category, I'd suggest you push this LOR to get sent both to the schools and AADSAS. It'll make things easier on you in the long run.

That should not be a problem. I have sent my letter directly to the schools and not through AADSAS. On my application I left the evaluators section blank. Don't worry about it as long as they get there...

I put mt recommendors on the LOR section of AADSAS, but my school only sends stuff to schools. I have already gotten interview invites, so this should not be a problem.

My school does the same thing with the LORs. I don't think that they on any sort of power trip, apparently they have been told by dental schools that some of the photocopies made by aadsas were illegible. Personally I like the fact that my school is handling all of the photocopying, and the letters will get to the schools a lot faster this way. 🙂

👍 im actually requesting that my LORs be sent directly to the schools..my school is charging $15 to send it to all 8 schools im applying to but it's worth the time it will save..i want to avoid going through AADSAS at all costs!

The preprofessional office at my college (Columbia) also copied and sent my LOR packages for me to the schools I applied to. Free of charge. All I had to do is supply the pre-addressed and pre-stamped envelopes.

Obviously it worked! 😀

Just $15? My school charges $200 for the first 5 schools and $20 for each additional school after that!! Granted this also pays the committee to make the letter, but I don't see why I should have to pay that much!

$200 to send out your LORs??? 😱

Charging you $200 to write a committee LOR is just plain unethical. Basically they are asking you for a bribe in return for a recommendation!

I'm surprised that no one at your college has ever protested this!

AADSAS will still send out your application, regardless of how many LOR's they have received.

That's good info.

That makes more sense than my conclusions. Sometimes I am so illogical.

Our school charges $200 too. I don't feel that we are getting ripped off though. When our letters go out, they go overnight express. The school also has an army of english professors and staff whose sole job is to make sure our letters are perfect. Consider the high cost of a dental education, $200 is peanuts.

Charging for mailing the thing I can understand. But paying someone to write a recommendation? I don't know man.. It smacks of impropriety.

That aside, I think having an LOR package sent direct from one's college to the dental schools one is applying to is a good thing to do-- It bypasses the middleman (AADSAS) and is one less step in which things might go wrong. 👍

200 dollars??? :wow: :wow: :wow: what are they using that money for??? 😱 our school charges us 10 bucks for each letter.

Hey guys! -- i have a quick question!

If i choose to send a LOR from a pre-professional committee i'm on, would i just get the Vice President to write it? -- would that be enough? or would my academic advisor have to be involved in any way?

Some of the schools i've looked into have stated that one letter from a pre-professional commitee would satisfy the LOR requirement..

any inputs?

thanks in advance for any input

I think you don't understand what I mean. The school has profs to make sure that the letters are the best they can be, the fact we have to pay is more a factor that my schools makes you pay for almost ANY service the school offers.

While looking at some school sites I noticed that some specifically state that you should "mail LOR at the same time submitting AADSAS". If I mail my LOR to AADSAS then why should I have to mail the school a copy also. AADSAS is just going to send them a copy right.

So if I sent my LOR to AADSAS can I ignore the LOR request from the school?

MyLORs were sent to AADSAS in early July because my references were leaving for the summer....but, I submitted my application August 15th. Do you guys think that AADSAS would have held on to my LORs? I have been trying to get a hold of them for the past few days, with no luck (both phone and email). Any ideas?

the problem is that AADSAS likes to take their sweet ass time and i've heard of a few people who have had their LORs "misplaced" my AADSAS...so if u can it's better to just eliminate them completely and have the LORs sent directly to the schools..if u've already had them sent to AADSAS then just keep following up to make sure they get sent out to the schools
