I am applying to dental school in may and i have some concerns. My freshman year of college i got a DUI. I was wondering if this will affect my admissions? I have a GPA of 3.6 and its rising. I have plenty of community service (Habitat for Humanity, Big Bro Big Sis,USADD- students against Drunk driving (I took over presidency). I also run a presentation for kids who get sentenced from courts for drinking charges throug USADD. I am currently doing research as well and also shadow at a few dentist offices. I am taking the DAT in March. If I do well on my DAT, do you think I have a shot of getting in?

Please let me know, thanks.

A dentist I know who does work for the police surgeons said that driving with alcohol in your system can warrant an automatic rejection from dental schools now a days. I think you still have a chance. It is better to get a 10 AA on the DAT then get caught drinking and driving.

no not a felony, just a misdemeanor charge.

I have done a complete 180 since then though. I took over presidency of UMADD and am currently running presentations through the courts for the kids who get alcohol charges and get sentenced from court. Hopefully this helps.

yea it sounds like you have learned from your mistake. As long as you make that clear in your application, you should be ok.
