Hey everyone! I am planning on applying to a few optometry schools next year and just needed some advice on how to improve my application? I have a 3.45 gpa (kinesiology major), plan on taking OAT in the summer, a member of a few clubs in my school, volunteer at local library, volunteered in hospital (100hrs), begin working in an optometry practice in 2 weeks.

Well I am sure there is much that I need to get done. Most Prereqs should be finished and a couple in progress when I apply (would that be a problem?) So any advice would help because I want to build a strong application when I apply.

I appreciate anyones thoughts or opinions!

Build a strong relationship with the Dr(s). Show them how interested you are in the field of optometry. Soak up everything you can at work and keep the grades up.

I think that you are doing very well. I would suggest scoring well on your OAT and you should be fine. It sounds like you are doing plenty of extracurricular activities. I would agree with the above in saying that getting to know a couple of ODs would be very beneficial. Find out what they have to say. Ask them questions about things that you can't learn in school. After you get to know them for a long period of time, you could get some great letters of recommendation out of them too. But, other than that I think that you are doing good. And yes, keep your grades up 🙂.

thx for all the advice..ill work hard to build a relationship with the optometrists
