I am planning on applying to multiple PT schools in Texas. My undergrad GPA isn't so good (I can blame it on maturity level and what not). Point is, I am determined to make things right and move forward. I am in a Master's of Science program with a 3.75 GPA and will most likely finish with that or maybe higher depending on my last three classes. My downfall, is will they strictly look at undergrad GPA or will they consider the last 60 hours of graduate and undergraduate work? I still need to finish my pre-reqs and I'm aware that plays a pivotal role, along with the GRE. Just needing a little guidance. Rejection is my worst fear and I don't see the point in applying to 10 different schools and expending an enormous amount of money on application fees.

your undergrad and graduate gpa's are calculated and reported separately. Mainly schools look at undergrad, because this is typically when students take their pre req classes and a good majority of applicants only have undergrad under their belts. However, I think that pre req gpa itself is most important. A high graduate gpa is a nice thing to have as it shows dedication, growth as a student and an ability to excel in higher level learning. As far as how each school views graduate gpa and all that, it is best to get into contract with someone in admissions.

Thanks for your post, NicoleJ5. I do agree, that undergrad GPAs are important, I would imagine that graduate work and the upward trend would be important as well. I had a very low GPA in my undergrad, yet my last 60 hours of coursework overall were great. I will plan on emailing admissions and asking them. Thanks!

There are schools that will only consider your last 60 hours of undergrad. Not sure which ones they are, but they are out there. Good luck.

Texas Woman's University considers the last 60 units taken, as well as the overall science GPA. I'm not sure about other Texas schools.

Angelo State looks at last 60 hours, or cumulative, whichever is higher. I did pretty well on the GRE (cant remember the exact number) and had a cumulative 3.28 or something like that from Baylor. Last 60 was closer to 3.6. When I spoke with them during my interview, they had used some oddball formula to calculate my GPA by "their" standards, and I guess it had omitted a few classes that they did not deem necessary, because their figure was higher. Hey it helped me out so I didnt complain. Your stats sound just fine in my book.
