This is my first post but I've been a long time reader. I read other DAT retake threads but could not find the answer to my particular question. Anyway I just took my DAT and have a problem. Here are my scores:

PA: 22
QR: 16
RC: 20
BIO: 20
GC: 21
OC: 19
TS: 20
AA: 19

As you can see these scores are not too good, especially QR (on which I made a mistake at the end and ran out of time). I cannot retake the DAT until December since I just took it on Aug 28.

Should I even think about retaking the DAT and will it be too late to retake it in December?

Also, if I retake it without sending my scores and then call up the schools and tell them that I retook the DAT will they accept my new scores?

I'm from SoCal and applying to all Cali schools as well as Temple, Case, Marquette, VCU, and Howard. My GPA is 3.7 SCI/3.79 Total. I also applied late, submitting my application at the end of July. I know I'm out of consideration for some Cali schools because of my DAT scores. But, frankly, at this point I would be happy just to get into any dental school. Any help will be appreciated.

I think you should be fine. You have a really solid GPA so that should help. And also a 19 AA isn't bad. I think its the range of acceptance. The QR from what I've read is the least important section so I wouldn't worry too much about it. All your other scores are sold, and a 22 PAT looks really good, Good luck! I'm sure you'll get in somewhere.

Your scores are solid. The QR is just the ugly one. I would call the schools and ask whether the 16 will keep them from reviewing your application. I'm sure you will be fine, because QR is not too important.

Your DAT is the average for most dental school matriculants plus you have an above average GPA. I think you're fine. QR isn't weighed heavily by schools...

i think ur GPA and DAT scores should hand you some interviews. The QR of 16 is not that ugly...so your still in the game and yes u have a good chance go for it!!!!

You're fine. Look at your GPA, you have a higher AA than most people, and QR is the least important section.

Looks good, hopefully you have a good shot! Doesnt seem to me like thats to many schools to apply to but everyone does it differently.

You are fine! Your GPA is good! I am sure you get couple of interviews.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I have decided not to do a retake unless a schools requests one.

I just called up UoP and they said that the 16 on my QR would NOT keep my application from getting reviewed. The lady said that as long as the applications are complete they will be reviewed. Competitiveness is addressed via the scores and it doesn't keep them from reviewing the application.
