Hey guys, this is my first time posting on this site. However I have utilized SDN in the past for advice looking for through old threads.

A little bit about me, I graduated medical school in 2018 and started a EM residency. I always thought I wanted to do EM but now that I am 6 months in I have come to realize that I made a mistake. I don't want to go into all the reasons why I dislike EM at this time. An opportunity has presented itself and I may be able to switch into Psychiatry. I really like psych and think that psychopharmacology and physiology is fascinating. I just wanted some perspective and see what you guys thought of this move?

I believe the best way to manage "speciality dysphoria" is to try the specialty that you are planning to switch to before making such a huge move. I don't know how can you try psychiatry while in EM residency.
Also, it would be beneficial to set a realistic list of pros and cons for each speciality. Counseling ppl who have been in your situation would be helpful too.
Wish you a Goodluck!!

Hello,

I just started my EM residency and I am in the exact same predicament in that I am also considering a switch to psych. Did it end up working out for you?
