I was just wondering. I'm currently in my final year of undergraduate studies and hoping to be able to go to med school at one point. I currently am sitting at a gpa of 2.48 and my science gpa is not much better than that. I've been looking into the med schools across canada and some of them look at your last two years of undergrad studies prior to application into consideration. Would you suggest that I take an extra year especially since my third year was not so great and do exceptionally well, maybe get a minor in something. Or would you suggest I go for a master's degree?

you have no hope for med school with those grades.

My advice is to start a brand new undergrad, and this time, apply yourself.

you have already had excellent feedback from your other post in another sub-forum. There is nothing new we can tell you, except that getting into med school in Canada is even harder than the US (as you probably already know). If you are not a competitive candidate in the US, you will not be so in Canada. The schools that weight your last 2 years more heavily will still expect your overall GPA to be stellar. For example, McMaster says that they take a 3.0 minimum, but in reality they almost never take anyone under a 3.8.

Your best chances of getting in are a DO school in the US or MD in the Caribbean. There are significant consequences of either pathway if you plan to go back home at the end to practice, which you can read about in detail on SDN.

At this point you really need to re-evaluate your career plans. There is a lot of good information on here; read widely and learn from others' experience.

good luck
