I am currently a high school student that is planning on going to a 4 year college. My long term goal is to become a physical therapist. The college that I want to attend offers a Movement & Exercise Science Major and an Athletic Training Major. I was wondering which would be better to be able to get into PT school? And if for some reason I can't get into PT school what would these degrees leave me for career options? I have a 4.0 gpa so grades aren't a huge concern as well.

I would like to be a sports physical therapist as well if this makes a difference. Thanks!

Whatever you want to major in is fine. It doesn't matter if you go into Psychology, Anthropology, Biology, Kinesiology, Women's studies, etc. As long as you take the prerequisites. However, Kinesiology/Movement Science-type majors give you more of the biomechanics/kinesiology/exercise science background you will need for PT school. Also, if you plan to become a sports certified PT, then you will need an ATC to be competitive. Taking that dual major program would be a plus.

However, if you plan to just get a Kines degree... well there isn't much out there in terms of great jobs. Unless you get a masters/higher level degree and do research: the University of Houston HHP graduate department works with NASA research, for example.

Kinesiology is NOT a terminal degree. Unless you want to become a gym teacher, more knowledgeable personal trainer, etc.
