Hey SDN! Im on my last semester of college and my grades aren't as high as I'd like them to be.
CUM GPA 3.17
Science GPA 3.05
Long story short I was battling with family struggle and depression during some of these semesters and had really low grades. Past 60 credits I have overcome my depression and have done pretty well averaging to about 3.8 for 4 semesters. I know some schools emphasize the last 60 credits but I feel overall they look at your overall GPA the most for med school.

I haven't taken the MCAT yet im going to start to study in May and take it next January.
Some general stats
Mexican: URM
50 hours of doctor shadowing
100 hours of general volunteering
100 hours of hospice volunteering
400 hours of scientific research (done a few poster presentations)
1 year of peer mentoring disadvantaged stem students
Resident ID

Even though my chances seem low, I'm committed in getting into med school and being a doctor to help the community that has helped me to become the person I am today. One option I was thinking was doing an SMP and I wanted to know if this was a good option? Im a bit iffy if I should apply first with the stats I have know assuming I get an o.k MCAT (like 505) or If I should do an SMP and apply while being in the program. Im mainly looking at the heritage SMP in Washington that has a pretty good linkage to PNWU. I just wanted to know where I stand in getting into medical school and if it was worth spending 50,000$ for an SMP to make my dream into a reality.

Yea, don't worry about an SMP that much. Your grades are a little low, but they're fine. You seem to have a good array of EC's so that will help boost your application. Make sure you get good LOR's. Research all the schools and make sure your GPA fits in their threshold because you don't want to waste your money.

Thanks for the advice! I'm planning to get some good letters of recommendation from faculty I do research with and primary care doc who's also a D.O. Yeah I'll double check which schools are pickier about GPA so I don't have to spend more money than needed.
