Hi everyone,

I just finished undergrad and during my freshman year (4 years ago), I was enrolled in Gen Chem 1 and 2 with the same professor. In the first course I didn’t do so great (C), but for the second one, I worked my butt off and went to his office hours regularly, and improved overall given it was a much harder course according to him, but I still ended up with a B- sadly. I was really able to connect with him better in the second course and he mentioned that I was one of his most improved and hardest working students at the end of the semester along with some other kind words.

Right now, I have a 4 strong LORs (1 Science, 1 Non-Science, 1 DO, 1 Job supervisor). I’m really struggling to get a second science LOR as pretty much all of my professors are ghosting me. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to ask this professor for a letter just to meet the requirement, even though my grades weren’t stellar?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I asked a professor that I had 2 years prior, and got a flat B in. He emailed me back in 2 hours with dates to meet him and he ended up promptly writing a letter. Didn't ace his course, but sat in the front and went to office hours several times. He's world renowned in his field and I was so anxious to even bother. Just do it.

Okay, I just don't want my judgment being called into question based on what I've read from earlier posts, since I did get a C in the first course.

If you showed improvement and connected well (which it sounds like you did), absolutely reach out! Sounds like it would be a strong letter for you.
