In need of some advice/reassurance, is pursuing OMFS still a possibility for me?

Hi everyone
Most people I have talked to tells me different things so I thought I'd come here for some help. I am a D2 and my class rank is hovering at around the 21st percentile, I have a 3.83 GPA with 1 C. I am involved in several extracurricular groups and did some non-OMFS research and was published (it was endo related). I know those are things I can be proud of, but most people I talk to in my class seem to think only the top 10% have any chance at matching. I am just now realizing I have desire to pursue OMFS and several of my classmates are already well into their CBSE studies. I can't help but feel like I am too far behind to make myself an attractive applicant. I am just a bit intimidated by the process and I don't want to undertake the monster that is the CBSE without being sure that I have at least a decent chance of matching. If I do decide to fully commit to OMFS, what should my next move be?
I'd really appreciate any feedback, thanks!

You just have to really show programs you are dedicated. That means shadowing OS residents at your school and making your name known to the residents and faculty (but not annoying them). Do a few externships in your break weeks and make sure you are with them at the 2am calls. Study hard for the CBSE.

Rank doesn’t really matter. If your CBSE is good that’s all they will care about

Rank does matter…it’s part of the overall picture. You are in a decent position…try your best to get into the top 20% and do well on the CBSE. A top CBSE score can compensate some for a lower ranking…but a top CBSE score is tough to get. Best bet is to work on all aspects to help your application to stand out the best that you can…rank, CBSE, externships, getting great letters of recs from OMFS faculty, leadership positions, and learn how to be normal during interviews.

A great CBSE makes up for almost anything. Nothing makes up for a poor cbse.
