I am working full time, thinking of applying to pharmd schools. However, I will need to relocate out of state.
My question is: is it possible to get in state resident status without having to work in that state for a year? I am looking to find ways to switch to in state tuition after the first year.
Specific situations I am wondering about:
1. can you get out of state and switch to in state after having lived there during year 1 if you are not claimed as a dependent on parents taxes?
2. if you have a working spouse, can their income qualify you for a switch to in state after a year? What if they are not working? (spouse is thinking about going back to school too. EEE! big loans!)
3. can buying a house turn you into an in state resident? If so, would you have to own it for a year before you start?
4. I live and work about 10 minutes from the border of another state. This other state is where I went to middle and high school, and got my undergrad and grad degrees, and want to go back to school. Would this count for anything?
5. WHat if we moved over the border but still worked in the other state? Does that count?
6. Do schools ever grant in state status on the basis of academic competitiveness of an applicant?
7. I have heard that Texas and Colorado are really picky. Once you are out of state, you will stay out of state unless you sign your name in blood on the Sam Houston statue for 10 years in a row or something. Is this true? Anyone know about Oklahoma? (OU)
Thanks!
