In-State Status?

Hey, I know many of us have or will be applying to out-of-state programs. How hard is it to qualify for in-state tuition after the first year? Also, I've heard of programs that will waive the out-of-state tuition the first year and allow you to pay in-state tuition (granted you apply for residency the 2nd year). Does anyone know which programs do this? Thanks 🙂

The difficulty of obtaining in-state status will vary depending on the state. For example, North and South Carolina are relatively "easy" to get residency after one year, while others like Virginia are a little more difficult. Your best bet is to get everything like your driver's license, insurance, etc. switched to in-state as soon as you move. I have also heard of some schools offering out-of-state students in-state tuition as part of a scholarship, but don't remember which ones do it. Anyone else know?
