I received an academic probation my first semester at college for getting below a 2.0 GPA. No actions were taken, only if I received bad marks again would I be actually put on probation. Do you guys think I still have to put that on the application under probations or no? If yes, do you think that is really going to be looked down upon or will it maybe help becuase I got an honerable mention the next semester and kept it up?

I rally don't know what to tell you. I'm no expert. But, if it were me, I wouldn't say anything - you weren't actually on probation right?> Why bother highlighting your shortfalls? That's just me tho...

Depends on if you were actually put on probation or were just given a warning that you COULD go on probation the next semester. What they want to know is if you were ACTUALLY put on probation, not if you were given a warning that you could go on probation. If you were put on probation, then yes, you should put it down. Just make sure you put something good in the box next to the reasons why/what you learned from it and be prepared to explain it tactfully if it ever comes up in interviews. Best of luck!

if it was actually probation (which is typical for any sub 2.0 semester at any school) then you have to include it. if it was a warning (lucky you), don't mention it!

either way, i wouldn't worry too much if your GPA is 3.5+ and your DAT is 19+

Yikes! I was too honest, and told them that I got a probation warning...maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it? Eh! now I'm regretting that move...I was just afraid that maybe my pre-health committee would mention it before me, and that wouldn't look good...

GOod luck with whatever you choose to do.

I also was put on academic probation my first semester, but quickly brought my grades up. However, there IS a notation on my trasncripts that states I was put on academic probation....so you might want to check that before you decide not to write anything at all. Also, I'm not sure though if the schools get a copy of our transcripts or not, so.....who knows!

I got the AP warning as well and it is noted on my transcript. I called AADSAS and they said that you do have to mention it. Just come up with a compelling reason and write about how you've grown since then and it shouldn't hurt you... especially if it was your first quarter/semester... seriously, how many of you are still the same person that you were 3 or 4 years ago? If you're a good student now, I doubt they'd deny you for faltering out of the gates 4 years ago... they could, however, hold it against you if they find out you were on AP and that you tried to hide it on your apps.

Oooppss...I hypnotized you and now I've erased it out of your mind..

Probation..what academic probation? Never happened..don't ask, don't tell

Thx guys that really helps out. Im going to put it on there and put a good explanation in there just in case. Hopefully that doesn't come back to hurt me!

good idea. there is a section on the AADSAS to put this down and explain it.

i had the same thing, for a gpa of 0.97 during my spring quarter my freshman year. i mentioned it, and still got interviews and acceptances to top dental schools.

good luck.
