I tried valiantly to find an answer to this by searching the forum, so sorry if this has already been discussed.

I want to include English comp AP credits on my AMCAS. My undergrad institution accepted it as a class, and I'm guessing it will be included on my official transcript as that class, but the grade for the class is my AP score. How do I include this on the AMCAS?

I think it will be as long as your undergraduate institution lists it on your transcript (or at least that's how it worked for me!). I had "unassigned AP credits", though, so I had to explain to schools that these credits were for Calc.

Just because your school accepts them for AP credit doesn't mean that med schools will accept them. Does the grade get factored into your college GPA?

Yeah I have a similar issue..I've placed out of Calc and Physics due to APs, but some school still require a year of math and some physics, so I'm just retaking these classes to be safe. I know some schools won't accept AP credit, I suggest contacting specific schools regarding your issue.

regardless of whether the med schools "accept" your AP credit, you MUST include these courses on your AMCAS if they are listed on your official transcript. If you don't, your AMCAS could be put on hold because you are technically withholding information based on the fact that your official transcript does not match the info you provided on the AMCAS.

I put the AP score when I inputted the info, but after my AMCAS was verified, I noticed that I apparently did it wrong (indicated with an X), and AMCAS corrected the grade to a "G" (whatever the hell that means).

Anyways, bottom line: do the best you can to fill out your AMCAS and do NOT omit anything. It is better to have an error because they will help you correct it if you don't enter the info how they like it; as opposed to omitting it and your AMCAS being on hold, and you get verified uber late cause you look like you are trying to lie on your AMCAS.

EDIT: you don't have to "guess" if a certain AP course is on your official transcript. Although it is most likely included, you can check by requesting a personal copy of your official transcript. Mine was the same as the one I could see online, but I worked off of the official transcript so I knew for sure what AMCAS was going to receive.

I had a bunch of AP credits. If they're on your transcript, you should add them. For all of those, and for other placement credits, my AMCAS grade was "BE" (by examination). You don't list the AP score, that's not really a grade.

List them exactly as they appeared on you college transcript. If your school didn't accept them, then they didn't exist. But yes, they are accepted to fulfill things, but you still need a semester of college math, some physics, some biology, etc. You can't AP out of everything. Check with schools you're thinking of applying for the exact requirement, or with your pre-med counselor.

I used AP English as one of my 2 required semesters of English for my pre-req's. Not a single medical school I applied to had any problem with that. If AMCAS doesn't like the way you entered AP credit on the application, they will change it for you. Its not a big deal.

On your AMCAS app, you should enter the AP course name exactly as it appears on your transcript. Then make sure you check off the box that indicates an Advanced Placement course. You should see it somewhere below the field for entering the course title. Finally, you put in the number of credits listed on your transcript for that course. Do not enter a grade. I left that category blank and AMCAS later entered G. I did not receive an error mark.

Thanks everyone! I definitely wouldn't have left off the class since it is included on my transcript - but it's good to know to just leave the grade part blank and then AMCAS will deal with it correctly instead of causing an error and then a delay! Also, the grade was never factored into my GPA, so I don't have to worry about that. I'm pretty sure that this won't cause an issue with my prereqs, since it's only English and I do have another semester I took here as well as many writing-intensive classes noted on my transcript... or at least most schools I've looked into don't seem to have a problem with the stuff I have.

I listed it exactly as it appeared on my transcript, marked that it was freshman year, "Other Term," left off a grade, and clicked "Advanced Placement." AMCAS didn't complain, put the grade as G, and I even got the / as opposed to the X (not that it really matters).

Yep, I included Calculus BC on my AMCAS, and medical schools have had no problem with that.

MoonDoggie, did you take any other math in college or just the AP? I had been hearing that even with BC one is supposed to take another semester (I had to take Calc III for my major anyway so never got to test it out). And I'd love to hear some real info.

I tested out of Calc I & II with the AP test, but I still had to take Calc III as well (for some schools). Oh, I also took stats too.

I took BC Calc and no further math in college, and I don't think med schools had any problem with it.
