I am new to all of this. I always thought med schools' incoming class sizes were around 30 students.

I just heard that EVMS has >100 accepted students this year.

Are there any schools that take only about 30-50 students?

Are there some schools that take >200?
Regarding the ones that take >100, is this common?

Thanks!

Depends on the med school. Some incredibly selective schools have classes that are around 20-30.

Most schools, though, have classes around 100-150.

Just check out the school's website.

i always thought class sizes were between 100 and 200. i know that uconn is about 80-85 students....drexel is a little over 200

i wouldn't mind a large class....i personally enjoyed my classes of 300 students more than my classes of 16

I agree, most of them fall between 100-150. UTSW has over 200 in the class. You should be able to find this info on AAMC website, if not go get MSAR.

Morehouse has a class of like 52, University of Kentucky has a class of 72(something like that). The OP mentioned numbers of "accepted" students. Im not sure if he actually means accepted, or if he means matriculated because most medical schools over-accept based on some statistical calculation that lets them account for all of the students that will decline their acceptance. Therefore, the number of accepted is most likely higher than the actual class size.

All 8 medical schools in Texas take greater than 90.

EVMS actually has a small class size compared to most schools. It is by far the smallest in VA. They only matriculate 108-110 students usually.

Marshall accepts 55 or 56, but only 8 spots for oos applicants and for one of those spots you have to live in a state that borders WV.

Nice try....but wrong :meanie: :meanie:

The UT schools take over 200 (they average around 215). Texas A&M takes 80-90...Texas Tech takes around 150....and Baylor takes 170.

I know that Mayo's, Stanford's, and Mount Sinai's class sizes are relatively small...definitely less than 80.

But as stated before...it depends on the school...some take more, some less. Check out the MSAR or the school's website.

Mayo's is 42, 8 of those spots for md/phd's, 2 for md/ods, leaving 32 for regular mds, half go in state, other half out of state.....phew!
Last year they accepted 57 for their 42 spots.

I was basing my lower limit off of this figure.

If you want to know classes sizes (and lots of other useful information) buy a copy of the MSAR. The new one is coming out in about 3 months.

There are schools with class sizes greater than 200, like Jefferson and Drexel. I think that the University of Illinois technically has the biggest class (over 300), but they spread that over four campuses.

A class size of 100 is probably low average to average.
