incoming D1 laptop question

So my school requires certain models, and I have
Narrowed it down to 2. But the main issue is the type of storage.

Model 1 is 13inch macbok pro with 500gb hdd

Model 2 is 13inch retina with the 512gb flash storage.

Retina is not an issue for me but I am concerned about HDD vs SSD. I do not know if dental students use lots of 3D programs since SSD will be faster than HDD in running programs and in general. The price difference is 800 dollars between model 1 and 2. So I am wondering if spending extra money is worth it.

If you really want the SSD, get the normal mac book, then pay $150 and get a Samsung 250GB SSD and swap it. It's just a few screws and one cable.
