Hey fellow ophtho applicants.

From what I've heard on the interview trail it seems like the number of ophtho applicants from everybody's medical school is up...

Let this be an informal poll... Is your class' # of applicants into ophthalmology up? and if so, how much? I'll start.

Ours is up 100% (double).

edit - sorry, i thought this was in terms of #of applicants TO my program, which is up 25% from last year. This year, we had 1 extra applicant from last year.

Last year, my school had 6/6 Match. This year, only 2 people are applying.. there were 4 originally, but 2 switched to IM last minute.

last year i think 7 or 8 applied, all but 1 matched. this year only 3 applying. there were 2-3 more but they are taking time off and maybe will apply next year

last year, 10+ applied from my school.. this year less than half of that. can't generalize it seems like from the previous posts.

the numbers are definitely up at some places. our school usually has 3-4 ophtho applicants per year, but we have 14 this year. on my last interview, i talked to people from two other programs that also had double digit numbers of applicants (and usually have maybe 4-5 per year).
