Hey everyone,

I just wanted to ask if Independent Study classes were viewed in a different light by medical schools than normal classes?

I IDP studied Ordinary Differential Equations my freshman summer (with a grade of A-) and then IDP studied Mathematics of Infectious Disease (graduate-level material) my sophomore fall. As Infectious Disease modeling is something I am very interested in, I was thinking of continuing my independent study in this material.
The material is difficult, as it is at a high-level, and I may not achieve the highest grades in it. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this?

thanks,
renz.

Most (all?) medical schools require the lab portion of your biology, chemistry, and physics classes. I've never really looked into independent study myself and not sure if you can make some sort of agreement for lab only. If you can't, whether or not it counts against you doesn't really matter.

How will independent studies list on your transcript?

I don't think it should be a problem though.
