Just wondering how long after you graduated, you think it would take to be able to open up your own independent pharmacy. Also how much do you think it would cost. And would you be able to open it up with just your pharm D. or would you have to get anything else? Thanks

Lots of questions - but it looks like you need to do some research first. Checkout the NCPA subforum and the NCPA homepage for some great information.

5 years after graduation. Sooner if you're the ambitious type.

2 million to get started. Business loans will be necessary of course.

A building permit (as well as a licence) would be just dynamite. Good Luck!

no no no.... beginning inventory of $60K to $120K.. this and that $30K to $50K

And 6 months of Salary and benefits...$72K... and this is being pretty liberal.

Oh dear I fell into the classic trap of not making it obvious enough I was being sarcastic. Oh well.

Well,

Your #1 and #3 were realistic.

Yeah looking back I can see that I didn't lay it on thick enough. Should have really gone all out, making it all completely ridiculous. The entire post was meant to be in good fun but I only made #2 ridiculous. I made #1 too realistic. #3 would have worked ok if I hadn't played it straight with #1. My bad. 😳

5 years, at least $200k, and no...a pharmD is sufficient...

why will customers go to your store instead of a chain with thousands of convenient locations?

why do i need thousands of locations? i just need one to go to.

I would have thought that as well. Customers get used to being able to go anywhere and fill there scripts wherever they are (meaning there is almost always a CVS or Walgreens around). Right or wrong it's where we are now. I cannot tell how many scripts I get from people who are traveling or just happen to be in my area for whatever reason. A lot of people seem to like the convenience of going to any CVS or Walgreens and getting their medication.

If you're in a rural area, you'll be the only game in town. And if you're in a city, you need some kind of niche market to succeed, which is true for any business.
