what kind of research? basic science? clinical? best years to do research for a medical student is after 2nd year, altho you can do something simpler in your 1st and 2nd year. Collaborating abroad especially in research is hard for students, but thr are summer fellowships in India for highly ranked medical students who are interested in research. I would contact some institutes like IIS or NIMHANS for ex to see if they have such programs or find out frm your own professors.
