  1. Pre-Pharmacy
Hi,
I am a Pharmacist from India and recieved my B.Pharm degree ( 4 yrs) this year. I am a permanent resident in US and want to do pharmD. I have researched on post BS programs of western university and Nova in florida. I want to know the procedures you have to undergo to go for pharmD and also the chances of my getting into such colleges. ( GPA 3.5 ). any help or advice will be greatly appreciated..

I am not sure about schools that will waive prerequisites and PCAT for candidates with B.Pharm degree. Please contact the schools that you are interested in directly and ask them to guide you. I think probably you will have to take many of the pre requisite courses recommended by the school.

Moved to Pharmacy forums.

This is a pre-pharmacy question...

OP - contact both western and Nova to answer these questions. Few here will know specifics about international pharmD programs (not as common).

There is also a forum made specifically for international students, PM me for more info.

Every job I've ever seen has said "Pharm.D. or B.Pharm required."

Do you want the Pharm.D for the lulz or something?

he has a B.Pharm from India. It isn't going to transfer to America unless he takes some sorta exam (which I heard is hard to pass) or he has to go to pharmacy school again or there are certain programs for international students who have a pharmacy degree from their country of origin to finish their pharmd in like 2 years or so.

He said he was a US permanent resident.

In that case, he'll probably still have to do pharmacy school all over. One of the students is my class is a 30 something lady from Egypt who was already a pharmacist there, and she has a 4.0 GPA. The law makes it a waste of time.

Instead, require an exam, and based on the results, you practice or you go back to school.

thanks guys...but the fpgee can be given only after 5 yrs in pharmacy and i have only 4..the laws have got very strict and i guess i will have to do the 4 yrs again , unless i get into nova or western university...
are there any people who have an international bachelor in pharmacy and are doing pharmD? just wanna know my chances of getting in..

that's not even the problem.

How will you pay for tuition? It costs a fortune, even more so for foreign students. Who will give you a loan for pharmacy school?

I am sure US pharmacy council has stopped indian graduates coming in with their degree, they have to do the entire pharmD degree in US no?

the 5 yr law only applied for European candidates, a bpharm from india means nothing at present I am afraid.

Please contact the school directly but I think you are going to have to take the pre-requisites again.

I think your chance of getting in is going to be higher than students applying to get into the first professional pharmacy year. This is because you already have experience working as a pharmacist but please ask the school.

Please also remember that only students graduated from 2003 onwards are required to meet the 5 years pharmacy school requirements.

Huh? I would hope that a high GPA would lead to a high PCAT score. If it doesn't, then it really is pointless, no? I mean if your high grades aren't enough to indicate that you will do well on a very simple standardized test then what exactly does it indicate?

In answer to your question I think about an 80th percentile score (quite easy) would be fine. I bet those school's websites have an even better answer.

Better to get a MS degree from India and then apply for the FPGEC. You will save a lot on the fees.

I believe if you go to Western University in Pomona, CA you will entered as 2nd year student and continue on with the rest of the student with your BS Pharm Degree. When you graduate, you will take the board like the rest of the student and earn a Pharm D.
