Hello All SDNers🙂

Just wondering for those of you who interviewed at Indiana if they sent you a package in the mail stating where to be on the interview day? I have been to the campus and know where the dental building is but there is also an administration building there too, so was wondering where you guys went when you got there.

Also, is there any advice you can give or any tips on what I should do now before interview day to do better on the big day? I'm not a state resident and am just interviewing for a waitlist slot, so need all the help I can get.

THanks!!:xf:

I had to call to schedule an appointment for an interview, so I didn't get any snail mail. I'm pretty sure that the interview was in the administration building. These are two questions that are best answered by calling the admissions office.

Between now and your interview day... review why you want to be a dentist (don't have a rehearsed answer ready.) Be ready to talk about your weaknesses in your transcript (they asked me specifically about those) and know that the interview was pretty relaxed overall. Check the interview feedback for IU for more details, and check out the school website.

Good luck and be yourself! Make sure your answers come out as if they are off the top of your head and not rehearsed.

Make sure to do a little homework on PBL as they will likely ask you about it. Good luck.

yeah, study the PBL and that PBL handout.

Thanks guys! I was planning on calling monday to find out where to go when I get there, and have done some research on probelm based learning and dentistry in general... Did they ask you a lot about your dental experience? I have not had much and it was awhile ago so just wondering how much they want in detail, about what you observed. Thanks i advance!!

Hey....I have an interview coming up in feb. as well......I didn't get any package either....they sent me an email telling me the date....I am going to call them on monday to confirm everything....

Can anyone tell me what kind of questions they will ask about PBL???
Thanks in advance!!

They didn't ask a lot, but it could be helpful if you include it as part of the "why dentistry?" question. I definitely incorporated my experiences into answering that question. They also asked me if there was anything I wanted to mention that wasn't on my application, to which I supplemented more dental experience.

do yall know if Indiana is still a two day interview or it is now a one day interview?

They ask you questions on what you know about PBL, what kind of advancement is being done in dentistry, how would you handle stress in dental school (i.e. the workload, not getting the "high grade" that you want, not passing a test, etc). Also go through your application, because I'm sure the interviewers (2 of them) will have gone through your application prior to interview.

What impressed me about IUSD during the interview process was that the dean of academic affairs was very down-to-earth and honest about the program. He said that there are strengths and weaknesses to all dental schools out there.

Compare that to some of the other dental school interviews I had couple years back where you have adcoms putting on flashy decorative shows about their program, students putting on "fake" smiles to pretend that they like their dental program etc.

Some of the people who criticize IUSD like to say this one phrase that makes me laugh - "the building and facilities are ancient." Let me tell you what. A brand new building or brand new dental chairs in the operatory will not make you a great dentist unless you push yourself to learn to become a great dentist. It's what you learn out of dental school that will make you a good clinician, or a good faculty member, or whatever you want to pursue with your DDS or DMD degrees. Not the new building, or new voice-activated chairs, or a clinic with digital Axium charted programs.

And for your guys' information, IUSD is planning on starting to build a new facility in 2013 or 2014.

To DMD4U, good luck.

Thanks SubugataiDDS for the info and support!

I totally agree that although having great facilities is a perk, the thing that would make someone a good dentist is determined in the effort, determination and skills of the individual. I am looking forward to the chance to check out the school and hopefully show that I deserve to be sitting in one of the seats in the upcoming class😀

Thanks to you all!:xf:
