Does anyone have any recommendations as to specific apartments to look at in downtown Indy that other dental or professional students live?

Hopefully that'll help.

Word of advice from someone who made a really stupid decision to try the Apt @ Riverside (aka IUPUI campus apt)... don't do it. Just don't. They are overpriced and not very well maintained... and very, very thin walls.

I recommend Gardens of Canal and Canal Square... both of which are within 30min walking distance to D-school. 20min if you don't drag you feet. Garden's is where I'll be moving in with a classmate for ~$500/mo for a room + own bath in a 2bed.
