when schools ask for your race(optional), is it a good idea to indicate my ethnicity. I'm asian, so, it's not to my advantage to indicate that. However, they can probably tell from my name anyways... what do you guys think?

No reason to hide it and if you get an interview, it will be obvious anyway....It really doesn't matter whether or not you disclose and they don't care either which is why its optional. If you have a solid application, just complete your apps, cross your fingers and wait. It'll work out! 🙂

I think its a personal choice (how do you feel about questions that ask you to indicate race?) and however you chose to answer it will not affect your application. 👍

As a white guy in a competitive professional school app process, I feel that I pretty much have to include my race, even though I disagree with the concept. All these little underlying assumptions or opinions about what I should think are the whole reason I'm including it.

As an Asian, I'd say you'd be plenty fine in excluding it.

I saw recently that "Do not wish to specify" recently became the largest minority group in college apps. I personally think this is a good thing.

just give them what they want... why make it harder than it is. they're going to figure it out anyway.

Like they can't tell from your monosyllabic last name.
