Individual class rankings?

If you're school doesn't, do you wish they did? Do you think it would make things too competitive?
Midwestern University keeps class rankings but it doesn't post them. You can go to registrars office and ask how you rank in the class and they will give you a number. It is based on GPA.
For grades on exams all you know is how you did and how the average did... there is no list.
I don't think it is competitive only if you want to be in the top of the class. Most people don't care as long as they are passing.
Most exams or classes are not curved. That also makes it less competitive.
When teachers curve grades and you know ahead of time, then it can create a competitive atmosphere. I am glad classes here are not curved. I went to a competive school where almost every class was curved and it created an environment where you could not ask someone for help because then it may decrease their position in the ranking and/or their grade.
C's still get PharmD's... 😀
I think having a published overall class ranking would be a bad idea. There is a lot more that goes into making a person a good pharmacist than GPA. There is enough competition in professional school as it is. I would rather learn a lot and get a C, than get an easy A but feel like I wasted my time and money.

class rank is the sort of information one wishes to know if one has a good rank. admit it. none of you here would not not want to know if you had the honor of being in the top 10. its the sort of thing a person lacking humility might have written on custom screen print t shirts to advertise to the public.
personally i hope to avoid C's (and at the present i do believe it will be possible for me to avoid them) but if i do get some im not going to throw dust in my face and fast on a mountain top.
the main reason for concern about undergrad GPA is to get into pharmacy school. i think that once you are in you should give yourself a break because there is more to life than #s.

I never went to ask what my rank was while in the didactic portion of the curriculum. I did inquire when I was about to venture off to my final rotations, though. I looked at my ranking, thought "well, that's cool" and then threw the paper away.
They email us at the end of every semester and say that the class rankings are available. You just need to make an appointment and go in the office, but I've never bothered. It's just not important. The main thing is to pass everything and not have to repeat a year or drop out.
I honestly never thought about it, in fact I haven't known my ranking since high school many moons ago. I don't really see how or why it matters and I certainly don't care about who is ranked above me. I have finally found a time in school where I can focus on learning, not competing and it's great. I truly want all my peers to succeed and don't care to compete with any of them. That seems to be the general feeling in my class - and there are some extremely talented people I admire in my class! I am Rho Chi which is all I know, and I don't even know what % of people they accepted.
