A couple of programs I called last week said I was "on hold" while others said I wasn't rejected and had been placed on a "waitlist for interview". Any hope with these places or should I consider these to be rejections?

there's hope. if you're interested in the programs and eventually get invited you should go on the interviews.

While there probably IS hope, JHU put me on the waitlist only to offer me an interview the next day. I replied with any email telling them they could kindly suck my balls. Is that appropriate?

There are alot of people on the interview thread with their names listed for >30 interviews. Hopefully these people aren't holding on to these 30 plus spots. I sure would like to reach double digits for my interview numbers.

i haven't updated the interview thread recently but have cancelled a few of mine. there are a few programs i wouldn't mind hearing from and some where i am on the waitlist and would like an invite... at least i got an invite at my top pick.... but will be very happy with any of my top 5....
just confused how long the actual list should be and how far down i will likely have to go.... and i don't want to risk not getting to be an anesthesiologist....

2nd that😀

Just got an offer to place myself on the waiting list for specific dates for Univ of Chicago. So that is one way of being "officially waitlisted" vs subtly rejected. +pity+
