Has anyone taken an undergraduate course in infectious diseases? The class is under Medical Microbiology and Immunology. The instructor says it is a "lite" version of an infectious disease course that you may encounter in medical school. Worth taking? Thanks!

Does it interest you? Can you expect to get an easy "A"? If yes to either of these it's worth taking

It probably won't help much on the mcat and I'm sure you'll go far past the scope of the course in medical school. So it's not likely to give you a large advantage over your future classmates

I can guarantee you it will be interesting, and the professor will likely be extremely passionate. If you are excited about the topic, it makes for an easier class due to your interest. My ID classes in Undergrad were the only 8AM's I didn't have any trouble getting to.

There can be a lottttt of memorization though.

Did you need a substantial amount of knowledge in microbiology to do well in this course? I don't have much background in microbio

Is micro a pre-req for the class? If not, you'll be fine without it.

Not required but strong recommended. I haven't taken Micro but do know a little bit from lab work.

You could shoot the professor an email or ask other students that have taken the class. My guess is you'll probably be fine without it as long as you ask questions when you don't understand something and do some reading to fill gaps in your knowledge. Micro at my school was fairly easy.

He just emailed me back and said what you said; as long as I am willing to fill the gaps I should be fine. It is recommended that you have some exposure but it won't be detrimental if not. Thanks! Have you taken the course?

I took a Jan Term intensive HIV/AIDS course. Involved general immunology, virology, and pathology. By far the best class I've taken in the sciences.
