does anyone know if the prehealth society AED (Alpha Epsilon Delta) is worth even going to? especially if you want to make it out as an officer?

i think adcoms know that those positions offer symbolism without substance. i would concentrate your efforts elsewhere.

I read AED and thought automatic external defibrillator also

hahaha...its no honor society..in my school..u need a 3.0 (or 3.3) cumulative and a 3.35 science GPA....or sumthin like tat.....its ridiculously easy to get into .....not really worth anything unless ur an officer....however, that seems worthless too...since its really disorganized....

come to think of it...all of our pre-med clubs are disorganized.....o well.... 🙄

Yeah, it's funny how so many people seemed to flock to AED at my school... simply because it was an "honor society" (resume padder).

My (other pre-health) club actually decided to make fun of that whole obsession with "honors" - we had this award that club members could earn if they went above and beyond their duties (lots of work, but not impossible). Before last year it was just called "* * * With Honors." Last year on a red bull/ study binge, a few of us decided to rename it some "* * * Honor Society" (with greek letters and all!).

The number of members who completed requirements for the award with the new "Honor Society" moniker was *ten times* the applicants from the previous year - all because we tacked on "Honor Society" and greek letters.

if you are looking for a good premed org. to get involved with join AMSA!my school didnt have one so i started a chapter at my univeristy last sememster and now im president. AED at my school is a joke. i like amsa because we dont just sit around and talk about how to get into med skool, we actualy do alot of volunteer work in community and other innovative programs.

hahaha....ur school as a good pre-med club...to bad cant say tat for ours....ya we get people to talk bout stuff....but they really should do some more activities...

I think it really depends on the school since there are NO nationwide guidelines on what it is AED chapters should be doing. I know at Hopkins AED (admitting im the VP of AED here) organizes mentoring, tutoring, and service projects and does fundraising for itself and for charities. We also sponsor a prehealth lecture series directed at exploring careers in medicine. At Hopkins, I would consider AED a more than legitimate activity as well as an honor society.

But, I have no doubt that there are schools where you just sign up and chill out. As with all activities, if its BS at your school its not going to help you.
