any info on the transitional year programs unique aspects, call schedule, elective time, hours per week, etc on the programs in chicago would be helpful.

As a categorical intern at U of C last year, I rotated part time at Weiss, which also has a Trans year, prelim IM, and categorical (all FMG) IM. I believe that their trans year is on probation for administrative issues. It's a pretty slack year, but you're likely to learn less than your counterparts in more demanding programs. Teaching is lackluster, your residents tend not to speak much english, and the ICU is a joke. CAll on the floors is short/long in a 5 day cycle (long, post, post, short, post, long, and so on...). long 'til 8pm. 1 overnight per month, and you'll do 2-4 weeks night float. Anyway, like I said, fairly cush, free breakfast, but it's a dump, and you may not get much out of it.
