Some programs can help you out with the Swedish, but they will expect you to be able to at least formulate a decent sentence in Swedish. Therefore I suggest you already now start to learn some Swedish.

AT is comparable to the old internship in the US. You attend medical school for 5,5 years, then you have a 1,5-2 year clinical training (even though the last 3 years in med school is clinical) and then you receive your license to practice medicine. If you want to go into surgery, there's an additional five years of training. It is quite competitive, especially on the university hospital such as Karolinska Hospital (Karolinska Institutet's hospital).

You have to pass "TULE-exam", an exam for those outside EU coming to Sweden. I think this is a test testing your general knowledge in surgery, medicine, psychiatry etc..

For more information you should contact Socialstyrelsen, those knows everything about doctors coming from outside EU. http://www.socialstyrelsen.se and just e-mail them and they will help you out.
