Does everyone else have to pay $3500/yr for this? I noticed the Med students don't get strapped with this sucker. Taking this and the cost of instruments into account ($4000/yr), the Med students get away with a cheap education compared to us!!!

Hardly the case.

Here is an example at BU:
year1 year2 year3 year4
TUITION $39,510 $39,510 $39,510 $39,510
FEES* $2,608 $3,083 $3,583 $3,083
ROOM & BOARD $11,381 $10,782 $14,376 $13,378
BOOKS/SUPPLIES $2,734 $2,150 $580 $580
PERSONAL $2,527 $2,392 $3,192 $2,926
TRANSPORTATION $ 1,960 $2,108 $3,212 $3,861

TOTAL $60,720 $60,025 $64,453 $63,338

That's about $62,000-63,000 per year. That's about the same as the dental school tuition.

Also, dental students can start working right after school as general dentists and start paying for the loans while med students have to do residency!

In an interview at Arizona during the financial info presentation, they told us that dental students pay their loans much quicker and have less defaults then med schools students.

Just food for thought!

Yea, I really didn't take that into account. I was just looking at the list of fees for all the colleges here at the university and all those guys have to pay here is tuition. We have tuition and 6 other significant fees. I agree with you, that we are more prepared to enter the profession right after graduation. Just wanted to complain a bit about the gigantic hole of debt I am climbing into. Are all informatics fees that high?

No need so be sorry or appologize.

I agree with you, all the computer, teeth, instrument fees are crazy! Especially at Arizona, they have 3,500/year on book DVD fee, and all the simlation lab fees.

Congrats on getting in to MUSC!!!! see you on the other side...in at least 4 years!

enjoy the holidays! (all of your reading this thread)

What is "informatics," really?

If I were a dental school, I would charge backscratchics and toenailclippingology fees to all my students.
