Hey Everyone,

I'm a new Navy Intern and I was wondering who is qualified to earn an FMF pin? Could I get one during residency or is the 13-16 month course way too involved to make that possible? I'm in a categorical internship right now but If I end up getting pushed into a GMO I would like to go with the marines and its always been a goal of mine to qualify for the FMF pin.

Thank you in advance.

P.S. I am having a lot of trouble finding ANY information about physical requirements and descriptions of the various Navy GMO options... anyone have a helpful link they can share?

you can get the fmf pin only when serving with marines- not in residency.

Agree with met.

If you want to go green, make sure you request it early from the gmo detailer. If you don't get attached directly to a marine unit but support one significantly you can request an orders modification to add that unit to your orders. In my experience, without a USMC unit on your orders as either primary assignment or ADDU, your request for the FMF will be denied.

Good luck.

From SECNAVINST 1412.10 issued this past January, you must be attached to the OPFOR to earn your FMF pin. So, not during residency. You'll have to do a GMO tour...
